2020 Board Elections
Details for 2020 SPJ Colorado Pro Board elections are expected to be finalized in May or June 2020.
At that time, Elections Chair Deb Hurley Brobst will call for self-nominations (or nominations by others) for the positions that will be up for election in 2020. All are two-year terms:
–President. The President is in charge of the chapter, scheduling meetings and other activities; supervising planning for the Region 9 Conference to be held in Denver in 2021; working with SPJ National when appropriate; working closely with the Treasurer, Elections Chair and other officers and Board members; ensuring that the Treasurer meet financial and other requirements of SPJ National; ensuring that Board communications are sent to members; and numerous other duties.
–Secretary. The Secretary maintains a log including meeting dates, meeting minutes, pertinent business transacted; maintains an up-to-date roster of all members with notation of their status regarding local and national dues; sends out meeting notices and other communications as directed by the president or as required by SPJ National.
–Four Board positions. Board members are responsible for the general direction and planning of chapter activities. Board members are expected to attend board meetings, in person when possible and by phone otherwise, and participate in the chapter’s professional development programming. They are expected to serve on committees as appropriate, as well as to help with Regional Conferences, college and university campus visits and other activities.
Board meetings are held at least every other month, and board members may attend in person or via conference call. Board members may reside anywhere in Colorado, and must be members in good standing with national SPJ and the Colorado Professional Chapter.
Some officers and Board members may be asked to attend an SPJ National conference to represent SPJ Colorado Pro. Reasonable expenses are reimbursed in such cases.
To indicate willingness to run for a position and to serve on the board, candidates will be asked to email to Deb (email address below) this information:
–Biography of no more than 250 words
–Statement of no more than 200 words about why you wish to serve
Deadline for applications will be announced on this site in May or June 2020.
Election information will be e-mailed to all members of SPJ Colorado Pro, probably in mid-June, and members will have about a week to cast their ballots. Details will be posted on this site, and emailed to members at the appropriate time.
Nominations should be sent to Deb at email@example.com.
If there are no contested elections, Deb will declare that an election is not necessary and declare announced candidates the winners. If there are no candidates for a position or positions, the Board will appoint a member or members to fill them.
